KOCHI: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Kochi chapter will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the city space improvement (CSI) project promoted by Kochi Corporation. The decision was taken a meeting convened by mayor Tony Chammany to discuss implementation of budget proposals.

DPRs will be submitted to the local body within a month and projects will be implemented on a public-private-partnership basis.IIA will have to submit a detailed report on Shanmugham Road that will be developed as a model road. The plan is to relay the road from Goshree Bridge to KTDC Junction.

The project includes designer footpaths, medians, limited number of hoardings and bill boards, foot-over-bridges with elevators. The mayor said the civic body would remove overhead cables and electric lines and take all service cables underground.
"Separate ducts will be provided along the roads for transferring cables underground. The lighting system will be modernized and we will provide separate bus bays and parking bays. On the model road, signboards will have to follow prescribed guidelines," said Chammany. The corporation has asked IIA to prepare a detailed project report for relaying footpaths across the city.

This will ensure that Kochi will get a uniform pedestrian walkway. As part of the junction improvement programme, the report will include plans for Thevara, Pallimukku, Ravipuram and Thoppumpady. The local body will also reconstruct 27 parks in the city.
IIA will also have to prepare project reports for renovating Kochunni library in Panayapally and M K Raghavan library at Chullikkal.
